DECEMBER PLOTTING
OOC
☀ We are currently at 50+/30 players! Applications will be closed to new players until the player count drops to under 30 again. Current players can app a second after two consecutive months of AC (including the first month's check-in), and also have the option of swapping out one character for another if a character doesn't feel like a good fit for the game, without worrying about the player cap.
☀ Some very very helpful player made google docs (thank you!): housing, event log Q&As, infoshare meeting summary from 11/27 (backdated to 11/27, but is a nice overview of the different mysteries characters are working on). I'm going to create a separate page for this sort of thing and sticky it to the top of the ooc comm, so please leave links below for things like height charts, age charts, permission posts, etc anything you think would be useful to have on hand or that you'd like other players to fill in so we can see where everybody's at.
☀ Since we got a lot of new players recently, I wanted to bring up the lore page again. All the information there can be handwaved so your character knows, or you can charge in blind. December will be lighter on plot since there's so much pending already, and I hadn't expected the game to grow this big or be this fast. That said, please do investigations if you're interested, I love terrorizing everybody's characters.

IC
☀ Six silver coins have been gathered and sent to the coffin, and in return, the characters receive a note, written in a foreign script that only Hamtaro (npc) is able to read. He summarizes the note as follows: the writer ("Princess Stephanie Astrapia" aka "Maggie") thanks everybody for their contributions, expresses her excitement in getting to meet everyone, and to introduce them to her friends and family. She will see them all "soon." ... In the last few days of a month, a number of new people show up in town, lost and confused, but no princess, and no townspeople. More information about the results of the sacrifices and the status of both Wave and Albedo will be given in Saturday's event log.
☀ The end of the month draws to a close, and at the stroke of midnight, the church bursts into flames. Over the next few days, the fire grows and grows, like a beacon reaching towards the heavens, although the church itself doesn't seem to burn away, standing undamaged within the flames. Can't say the same for any character who decides to walk inside a burning building, though.
☀ A heavy snowstorm hits town the first weekend of the month, aka event log day, extinguishing the church fire and making the town look almost monochrome under the blanket of snow. IMPORTANT: the event log will contain more information about the state of the church after the snowstorm. At least the field is frozen over, so there's no worry about grabby skeletons reaching up through the dirt. Bad news is that the frozen grass is razor sharp, prone to slicing open any unprotected skin that brushes against it.
☀ At night, the snow reflects the moon's light and makes the nights brighter, the fog thinner, monsters more easily seen... and in turn, it being easier for the monsters to spot your character and attempt to lock eyes with them. Characters who engage in a staring contest with a monster will eventually lose unless they don't need to blink, because the monsters also don't need to blink. Those characters will turn into stone for the duration of the night until they unfreeze at dawn.
☀ With the first snowfall, the temperature keeps falling and falling. By mid-month, the lake will completely freeze over, great for ice skating and/or zipping across the ice with the exciting prospect of finding out what's on the other side of the lake. Spoilers: there is no other side of the lake. Just as if the characters were to follow the train tracks on either side, the lake seems to expand endlessly, although it gets darker and darker the further one goes. They can slide out there for hours, but it'll take the same number of hours to slide back. If characters want to explore the lake, better do it in the first half of the month, unless they want to painstakingly chip away bits of ice to tunnel down through it.
☀ At some point during the month, players have the option of regaining a memory for their character. The requirements for this memory are that:
Merry Christmas! your present is lies.

☀ At some point during the month, players have the option of regaining a memory for their character. The requirements for this memory are that:
1) the memory is 100% fake,
2) it does not contradict any existing memories including the altered one, and
3) it's a happy memory.
This memory can be triggered at any time during the month by a sight or smell associated with it, and characters who have regained the false memory will find that their gemstone is partially restored, although with clear stone instead of its original colors. Characters from last month had found their gemstones chipped, with black edges, and while the clear stone may replace the chip, the black edges will remain.2) it does not contradict any existing memories including the altered one, and
3) it's a happy memory.

Contact: DM this account, friend me on plurk
About me: US EST, currently working evenings - expect to see me tagging around 1am or 1pm my time.
On plurk, I tend to chat about Undertale / Deltarune / other videogames of interest, TTRPGs, Blaseball (less a videogame than a "cultural experience"), art, skeletons, and sometimes complaining about my job - I tag those [work] for plurk savior purposes,. Also, memes. If you're in the discord, please take a moment to admire my icon there :)
Character: Papyrus
Canon: Undertale (Royal Guardener | Queen Toriel ending)
About him: ~6' tall noisy skeleton monster (who believes he's a reanimated human skeleton), who technically achieved his dreams of joining the Royal Guard and becoming important...!! by actually gaining the title of Captain of the Royal Guard, with the duties of royal gardener. (Undertale is full of puns that way.)
He's gained the nickname Sawbones thanks to being the first arrival with healing magic and the willingness to help people with it! But it's not really his magical specialty (he only does it in game in very specific circumstances), and he's been harboring some quiet guilt and fear about how he'd failed to help with Jiro's request for healing just days before Jiro disappeared and died. Whoops. That unfortunate timing's not enough for him to stop embracing the role of healer as a way to be important in this strange place, but he's going to be happy to meet literally everyone with medical training or healing magic of their own.
Also, he's that guy who'll be capslocking in network text posts, and partly responsible for such shenanigans as stealing the bell from the church and building a pit trap that someone got skewered in. If I see more excuses for him to help renovate things in inconvenient ways, I'll be taking them.
December plans:
Some of this will depend on the details of the Saturday log, so I'll be borrowing the initial comment for later plotting thing, but so far:
- With the snowfall, he's absolutely going to make another snow Papyrus. Maybe more than one. This town could use some art that way, and look, free materials!
- Maybe one renovation project that's actually helpful could be exploring ways to mow down the frozen grass...? They could use pathways across fields that are safe to walk. Sans dying to a blade of grass would only be ironically appropriate in ways neither skeleton has the right memories to appreciate.
- Papyrus could get involved in any further experimentation with the nightly staring contest entities! He was there when Kuja was the first to petrify, and there when Kuja went back to normal, so he knows about that much - andas a skeleton monster who doesn't need to blink and barely needs to sleep, he's another great option for helping out. He's not likely to instigate more experimentation with it, though, because it all spooked him.
- I am absolutely going to shove more fake memory into his skull, but I'm still deciding on what the new fake memory will be...
- Speaking of, let me reiterate for new people: Papyrus's main fake memory is a whole false background (to fill in the massive gaps of Undertale telling us literally nothing about his past before Snowdin). He believes he's a reanimated human skeleton, with memories of the years since that reanimation and fragments of a human life, though he knows Sans's memories totally contradict it. (The brothers aren't really talking about that.) If this is something your characters might have fun reactions to, please bring them on!

For all that Sans is doing the [points at eyes, points at Kuja] thing to him (and all the repeat killers), Papyrus is stubborn on the whole point of people can choose to be better and will have more success if supported in it. If anything, he'd double down on the friendship angle there. More investigations make a good hook?

Because of how the statue thread turned out, Kuja trusts Papyrus to watch his back on risky endeavors, because he already did even when it was inconvenient and they were near as strangers to each other.
And as Kuja has kind of coyly shown Papyrus so far, he does have a playful side that I think can gel well for less serious adventures. He also relates to Papyrus in a way he hasn't to anyone else wrt what Pap's said about the underground and getting used to life on...some kind of surface, anyway. I HC Kuja spent at least a couple years living solely in Terra before he was allowed to first visit his world's surface, and it had a dramatic effect on him.
Something really interesting I'm seeing emerging for Kuja is that he relates more to being a "Monster" as Papyrus would call it than a human. He pretended to not be what he is a long time, and hanging out Pap kinda makes him feel like he's letting loose in that regard.

And aww, that's fun stuff, I love when unexpected parallels harmonize between characters from different games. It makes sense that Garland might've (tried) to direct Kuja's initial education on Terra before sending him out. And there's something in pride with an identity rather than defining oneself as "not-X"

but consider: would the town be improved by a snow Hiiro?

he would probably be happy if papyrus made a snow hiiro tho. just him. he would be so happy.

Also I think I saw Mel mention it somewhere (the discord?), but if she's a soul w/o a body, is there a risk a skeleton might accidentally absorb her? Not something that's come up much before

and yes! this was brought up briefly and hoo boy that would be. A Lot! maybe a fun terrible thing down the line :D

He's also quite interested in the eyes in the fog, for Personal Reasons, so I'd be interested in maybe them meeting over that? He has a curse centered around his right eye and his schtick involves a lot of eye imagery. Having Papyrus around would be mighty convenient to test some things with that!

One of my log prompts is possibly going to be a very silly prompt with Matoba trying to interact with the spirits in the woods, so feel free to hop in there if it interests you!

And thank you! I've been having fun with it. Papyrus will be around capslocking to the IC anon board and I've got a top level in place, so if any of those prompts suit feel free to toss Akira that way!

I'll be tagging around after I get my own up though, so I'll definitely come hit you up on one of them! c:
