Hihi, Swirl here, bringing Papyrus the skeleton from Undertale - that quirky indie RPG about videogames and mercy. He's named after that infamous font and talks/writes in it too, please brace yourselves for the sight of it in network posts.

Liked the looks of this spooky but not outright horror game, especially with the messing with memories for fun and confusion... And figured we could use some skeletons to liven (deaden?) things up before Halloween! Can find me on

I have to admit, I'm actually pretty canonblind on everyone else who's apped to the game (besides my castmate), so I'm looking forward to getting to know all the characters through threading!

Thank you! I've been enjoying the thread with Mayoi, and honestly the screaming made Papyrus's attempt to play the scene like a normal social interaction even funnier.

I was wondering, how literal is that basement and vent dwelling...? Wondering, in a half-joking way, whether the phantom of the idol can be an honorary monster (living underground, ghost-like maybe-magic ability...)

Honestly it made my day. The good news is beyond his initial horror he actually thinks skeleton-san is pretty neat.

Its Extremely Literal. through the entire first chapter of the story, you don't even see him because he's hiding in the ceiling and as the other three main characters are going about the story, one of them just periodically comments "oh no, he's still there in the ceiling, following us" until he finally reveals himself at the end. He very much talks about how he's self-exiled himself for years, living in "the darkness" because he thinks he is a foul, nonhuman thing that shouldn't be around people. he also just can't handle sunlight and will faint around crowds of people!

The priest character that can pick up on weird dark presences can also sense him through a wall sometimes and he does have the sharp, anime shark teeth so he is definitely a very weird guy!! Honestly, while a lot of Mayoi's narrative is accepting and understanding human kindness, the angle of "monster does not mean bad" is a super interesting one and he could probably benefit from the cr.

I agree, it sounds like just trying to befriend the skelebros will have Mayoi rethinking some of that self-assessment in interesting ways. And I can already imagine Papyrus trying to cheer more self worth into him, ala the Alphys date - he needs someone besides his brother to be pestering into improving themselves.

Yes! and I am all about challenging the way he thinks in fun ways he may not get the opportunity to in canon. Giving him a chance to accept the parts of him that are weird and “nonhuman” is just as important as recognizing his humanity, too. And even the smallest amounts of positive reinforcement goes a long for him. Especially after i yanked out one of his more important memories for that…

A scrunkly pet project is just the thing a cool and not at all nervous skeleton needs to take his mind off anxiety-inducing questions like where are they, why don't his and his brother's memories match, and are they going to starve / get killed by shadow wolves / something else awful. He'll happily embrace the cheerleader position here!

Hi Swirl! I love Papyrus... I hate the font but I will read it all for him and for you. I might harass him with Rinne soon since Hiiro mentioned him in a thread too hehehe.

He's a delight to play, so I'm glad others are having fun seeing him around!

And that sounds good, characters mentioning others in threads adds to that great feeling with small games, where all the characters know each other at least in passing... I love when CR starts with preconceptions from what they've heard. I've got a top level up in the mini-event post, and I'm still backtagging stuff on the TDM.

(To be clear, I am 100% down for dropping the font and/or the capslock for network/hand-written things from him for OOC readability! The important thing is that it is relentlessly happening IC. :P)

I love it too! Rinne's just a little freaked out, but depending on how their thread goes, they will be bonding over Italian cuisine very soon... I'll get to tagging Papyrus soon!

(ALSO LMAO NO DON'T STOP IT FOR ME, I love it. I've played Undertale. THE FONT MAKES ME LAUGH, it's part of the experience!!! No real difficulties here. I just also think about the SNL skit with Ryan Gosling a lot HEHE.)

He's just that great, he'd be the first to loudly say. Happily, Papyrus comes from a kingdom where many monsters are cheerfully down for a first encounter flinging around of weapons and magic, so he'll just take it in stride!

(Sans, not so much on the chill with fighting front, but at least Hiiro's already got the intro to skeletal going)

Hey hey, a reunion! You know the skeletons of course, and me and Mel have continued playing the bros in a couple games since then, so we've done more hashing out headcanons and whatnot to metaphorically flesh them out. >:3

T&B is on my list of "I meant to watch that, but still haven't gotten around to it" shows, I have bits and pieces of osmosis (and Tumblr's exaggerated shipping tendency). Superheroes with obvious brandname advertising to fund their shenanigans as a fun/depressing realistic take, is part of my understanding?

corporate-sponsored heroes is the basic premise, yes! tho the show itself doesn't really plunge into a lot of depressing cynicism about it tbh -- it's a generally hopeful-toned show hahah.

also in t&b's specific case the shipping is not particularly exaggerated, kotetsu and barnaby are like, Aggressively Married lmao

Oh, that's a fun blend! And delightful to hear the shipping as depicted by fanon is p close to canon
