Your papyrus is wonderful and i am excited to get to pester him more in game. I am so sorry for uh. the screaming and the attempting to escape through the ceiling don't worry he's like that with everyone.

Thank you! I've been enjoying the thread with Mayoi, and honestly the screaming made Papyrus's attempt to play the scene like a normal social interaction even funnier.

I was wondering, how literal is that basement and vent dwelling...? Wondering, in a half-joking way, whether the phantom of the idol can be an honorary monster (living underground, ghost-like maybe-magic ability...)

Honestly it made my day. The good news is beyond his initial horror he actually thinks skeleton-san is pretty neat.

Its Extremely Literal. through the entire first chapter of the story, you don't even see him because he's hiding in the ceiling and as the other three main characters are going about the story, one of them just periodically comments "oh no, he's still there in the ceiling, following us" until he finally reveals himself at the end. He very much talks about how he's self-exiled himself for years, living in "the darkness" because he thinks he is a foul, nonhuman thing that shouldn't be around people. he also just can't handle sunlight and will faint around crowds of people!

The priest character that can pick up on weird dark presences can also sense him through a wall sometimes and he does have the sharp, anime shark teeth so he is definitely a very weird guy!! Honestly, while a lot of Mayoi's narrative is accepting and understanding human kindness, the angle of "monster does not mean bad" is a super interesting one and he could probably benefit from the cr.

I agree, it sounds like just trying to befriend the skelebros will have Mayoi rethinking some of that self-assessment in interesting ways. And I can already imagine Papyrus trying to cheer more self worth into him, ala the Alphys date - he needs someone besides his brother to be pestering into improving themselves.

Yes! and I am all about challenging the way he thinks in fun ways he may not get the opportunity to in canon. Giving him a chance to accept the parts of him that are weird and “nonhuman” is just as important as recognizing his humanity, too. And even the smallest amounts of positive reinforcement goes a long for him. Especially after i yanked out one of his more important memories for that…

A scrunkly pet project is just the thing a cool and not at all nervous skeleton needs to take his mind off anxiety-inducing questions like where are they, why don't his and his brother's memories match, and are they going to starve / get killed by shadow wolves / something else awful. He'll happily embrace the cheerleader position here!
